BIO

Tony Christie is an English singer and musician best known for his hit song (Is This the Way to) Amarillo, which became a UK chart sensation in the 1970s and saw a resurgence in popularity in 2005. Born on April 25, 1943, in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire, Christie started his career in the late 1960s, gaining success with hits like I Did What I Did for Maria and Avenues and Alleyways, the latter of which was used as the theme for the TV series The Protectors. Over the years, he built a strong reputation in easy listening and pop music, collaborating with renowned songwriters such as Mitch Murray and Peter Callander. His career saw renewed interest in the 2000s when comedian Peter Kay featured Amarillo in a charity music video, leading to its re-release and topping the UK Singles Chart. Christie has continued to record and tour, exploring genres like country and folk, and remains a celebrated figure in British pop music.
