ALISON
LIMERICK
BIO
Alison Limerick is a British singer-songwriter whose voice helped define the house-music and club scene of the 1990s and remains a timeless signature in dance music culture. Born in 1959 in Stepney, East London, she originally trained at the London School of Contemporary Dance before shifting her creative focus to music.
Her early career saw her working as a backing vocalist for the likes of The Style Council and contributing to the avant-dream pop project This Mortal Coil. In 1992 she released her debut solo album And Still I Rise, which included her breakout single, the now-iconic “Where Love Lives”.
“Where Love Lives” became a defining club anthem, reaching the US Hot Dance Club Play chart and forming the basis of her enduring influence. Her other notable singles include “Make It on My Own”, “Time of Our Lives” and “Love Come Down”.
In a remarkable modern moment, her 1990 anthem “Where Love Lives” was featured in the most recent John Lewis Christmas advert (2025), where a newly re-imagined version by Labrinth appears alongside her original recording — bringing her voice and legacy into the heart of a national festive campaign.
