SISTER SLEDGE

BIO

Sister Sledge is made up, rather aptly, of the Sledge sisters: Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge (though Kathy left in 1989, still making occasional appearances with the group.) They formed under the name in 1971 in Philadelphia, their home town, and released a number of singles throughout the 1970s that enjoyed some moderate success. However, it was 1979’s collaboration with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic that really showed the full potential of the group. The resulting albums, We Are Family and Love Somebody Today, spawned such hits as We Are Family‘s title track and He’s The Greatest Dancer, songs which even today are known universally.

The group released a compilation album in 1993 through FM-Revolver Records, titled And Now…Sledge…Again. This album celebrated the very best points from an extraordinary career, showcasing the greatest hits that the band had produced. Sister Sledge are still very much active today, playing shows around the world.
