The Sound Of The Truth (The Independent Collection)
£10.00

This compilation album charts the career of 54-40 before their move to Columbia, and it is an eclectic mix of a band who could cross genres. Whilst known for their heavier post-grunge numbers, this album includes folkier numbers, post-punk tracks and their more indie led tracks. The band would continue to go from strength to strength, and this serves as a reminder of what got them there.

For fans of: Echo & The Bunnymen, Pearl Jam, R.E.M.

Lies To Me [CD 1 & 2] (1996)
£5.00

Taken from the album Trusted By Millions, this 2 disc set shows just how powerful 54-40 could be. This track is a wonderfully constructed piece of alt rock, the rhythm absolutely making the song with it’s bass led style. The band are a little more tempered than other efforts, this track doesn’t need to be too aggressive, which makes it perfect as a single. With the alternate B-Sides, these 2 discs are perfect for the completionist and the casual listener.

For fans of: Garbage, Pearl Jam, R.E.M.

Blame Your Parents EP (1994)
£10.00

In the early days of Britpop, not many bands were playing a scuzzy form of alt rock that bordered on grunge. 54-40 were Canada’s answer to Garbage, a brooding beast that could slip into post-grunge and indie without so much as a conflict. This EP really gives the best indication of that, from the title track’s lopping and infectious melody to the rockabilly styles of Radio Luv Song. This EP is one hell of a place to start with 54-40.
