Ausgang are a goth-rock band from Birmingham, UK, who played their first gig in 1983 with a lineup consisting of Max (vocals), Cub (bass), Matthew (guitar) and Ian/ Ibo (drums.) All except Ibo had previously been part of the art rock outfit Kabuki, with this new band being their opportunity to do something more in line with their punk influences. Tours with The Wonder Stuff and The Cult started to open the worlds eyes as to what the band were capable of, and a few single and EP releases through Criminal Damage Records gave fans their first experiences of Ausgang in the studio.
A series of changes then came about for the band, with bassist Cub being replaced with new recruit Stu, and they were promptly signed to FM-Revolver Records. 1985 saw the recording of both an EP, Hunt Ya Down, and an LP, Manipulate, which would be released in January of the following year. The relationship between the band and the label ended after this release: the band went on tour with Gene Loves Jezebel, then formed their own label (Shakedown) to release two more studio efforts in 1987 (an EP and a Mini LP) before the band dissolved.
Fortunately for fans of the band, this wasn't to be the end, and the band have since reformed, releasing another album in 2005. Whether they are still active now is unclear, though there are no sources to say they ever officially disbanded again.
